Pushpanjali: We commence the show with Pushpanjali. Pushpanjali, meaning "offering of flowers," is a traditional invocatory piece in Bharatanatyam, an Indian Classical Dance, that marks the beginning of the performance. This dance serves as a way for the dancers to seek blessings, from God, Guru and the Audience. With this performance the dancers create a sacred and auspicious atmosphere for our recital.
Today, Meera Baskaran and Harshita Pasumarthi, disciples of Mrs.Josephine Nithya Babou, will present Mum-Matha Pushpanjali, a unique and one-of-a-kind performance that offers prayers to the deities of three religions—Hinduism, Christianity, and Islam. Such a three-religion Pushpanjali is incredibly rare, highlighting the spirit of unity and inclusivity. This exceptional piece, composed by Kalaimamani Mr. Gopakumar and choreographed by their Guru, Kalaimamani Dr. Lourdes Shanthi, is set in ragamNaatai and thalam adi.
